Festival history
In 1993 a peace treaty was signed in Cambodia between the Khmer Rouge and the government. The Khmer Rouge pledged to lay down their arms, and democratic elections were promised. The nice words have not had much effect yet on the daily life in the countryside. Filmmaker Isabelle Quignaux visited the small village of Cheng Mean Chey, where the people are desperately trying to survive. They are not only afraid that the battle will start again any moment, but also of the thousands of mines that lie hidden in the paddies, the rivers and along the roads; a perilous cordon "which has fewer leaks than the tyres on our bicycles".
