French archival footage from World War II - sometimes in grainy black-and-white, sometimes sharp and in colour - passes by at a dizzying speed. In only a few minutes, the film visualises the insanity and impact of the war. With images of the liberation, the tempo decreases. We see the faces of happy, liberated citizens, but before long we are also witness to a cruel spectacle. Women who allegedly had a relationship with Germans are publicly taunted, their heads are shaven and they are beaten. The camera zooms in on faces of perpetrators, victims and bystanders, each time providing a different perspective. The shame of the women, but especially the hatred in the eyes of others and the joy in dispensing punishment are painfully evident. Even after the liberation, the cruelty of World War II lived on - it didn't take long to find scapegoats.
