Festival history
All boundaries between public and private are eliminated when Seidl’s camera follows three emaciated, ambitious young models, who are prepared to do literally everything to appear on the cover of a magazine. Meanwhile, we also get to know everything about their sexual relationships and daily habits (snorting loads of coke and embracing lavatory bowls). Lisa has to divide her attention between her black lovers and the plastic surgeon; yoga and tarot addict Tanya has quite an unusual relationship with Vivian yearns for a steady boyfriend, but has a roll in the sack with everyone. Their relationship with third-rate photographers also takes on bizarre forms: the models throw their entire body into the fray to be photographed. In long voyeuristic shots - some people may see it as exploitation -, Seidl shows three women who have completely lost their way in a society that rests on looks and image. He shows the three blondes without any veneer, how they make themselves up and barter themselves away, eagerly watched by the camera and the cinema audience.
