Documentary made within the framework of the first Five-Year Plan and dedicated to the young communists in Western Europe. The film shows images of the construction of a second blast furnace in Magnitogorsk in the Ural Mountains by the organisation for young workers Komsomol, as well as images of the mining and transportation of coal by the Komsomol from the Kuzbas-mine. A night shift puts the finishing touches to the construction of the furnace; next, it starts producing pig-iron. Emphasis is put on the responsibility the youngsters take upon themselves by doing this job. (This film is not part of the programme 'Joris Ivens: the nitrate collection'.
