From the creators of the ground breaking documentary SCARED SACRED Can spirituality and activism co-exist in harmony? Acclaimed filmmaker Velcrow Ripper sets out to discover what's possible when these two driving forces in his life fuse together. Sparked by the historical roots of what Gandhi called "soul force", and Martin Luther King called "love in action", Ripper discovers that, all over the world, remarkable individuals are taking action from the heart, igniting a new global movement of peaceful, non-violent action. On this global journey Ripper meets with Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Alice Walker (The Color Purple); author, teacher and American activist bell hooks; Carly Stasko, a Toronto-based artist, writer, activist, producer and holistic educator who recently completed writing Healing: Jamming the Culture and Shifting the Power"; eco-philosopher, Joanna Macy, Ph.D, a scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology; John Quigley, an environmental educator who for 71 days lived in an historic Santa Clarita Valley oak tree to save it; Judy Rebick, Canadian journalist, & political activist; Van Jones, founder of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland California, a strategy and action 'incubator' working towards justice, opportunity and peace in urban America; Sera Beak, a Harvard-trained scholar of comparative religion and author of "The Red Book: A Deliciously Unorthodox Approach To Igniting Your Divine Spark"; Noah Levine, a meditation teacher, counselor and author of "Dharma Punx" and "Against The Stream"; Author and Stanford graduate Sam Harris; Leela Kumari, the Governor for the 'National Federation of Dalit Women' in India; Thich Nhat Hanh, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Actress turned Activist, Daryl Hannah; famed tree-sitter Julie Butterfly Hill & more. Featuring Velcrow Ripper's distinctive cinematic style, Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action beautifully captures what Alice Walker calls "A human sunrise", revealing what is possible when human beings are at their absolute best.
