A journey through Georgia (USSR) in which Böttcher lets the different aspects of everyday life in this Russian republic come down on him, with an emphasis on the picturesque and folkloristic facets.

In Georgien is Böttcher's first foreign movie in 30 years of film-making. The main principle of his work is spontaneous perception. He is concerned with the so-called 'encounter-truth': the film is a sign of life but is part of it as well. "It is an authentic but at the same time a poetic sign", as an illustration of the intuitive attitude of the film maker in perceiving things. "If the encounter itself makes up the event and nothing extraordinary is waited for another dimension is touched upon", says Böttcher.
