Festival history
CRÓNICA DE UNA INFAMIA is a documentary about the Cuban struggle against imperialism. The starting point is an event in 1949 which seemed insignificant but turned out to have far-reaching consequences. The Cold War was at its height and Cuba was governed by a corrupt regime when the North American war fleet touched at Havana. Inebriated U.S. marines proceeded to desecrate the obelisk in memory of the Cuban national hero José Martí. This incident agitated the people and revealed the imperialistic interference of the U.S. with the island, as well as the submissive attitude of Cuba. Cuban students reacted vehemently. Among them were some of the people who later would play an important role in the Cuban revolution. One of them was Fidel Castro.
