Mensajeros de los dioses

The drum is the king of Afro-Cuban instruments. It is regarded as the messenger of the gods in Afro-Cuban religions. This film shows a sacrificial rite in a house in Havana. Two drums are offered to the gods Yemayá and Shango of the Yoruba pantheon. For the first time in history - and highly exceptional - this ritual was recorded on film. By preserving the authenticity of the rite, this documentary succeeds in showing an essential aspect of traditional Cuban culture, with the aim to contribute to the knowledge of the Cuban cultural heritage and the ethnic origin of the people.
