Festival history
People who still think that people in wheelchairs should be pitied can file this prejudice away forever after watching . Despite all the misfortune that the guys in the American wheelchair rugby team have had - one had a car accident, the other was shot and yet another was paralysed by a malignant bacteria - pity is the last thing they need. Wheelchair rugby is an aggressive combination of rugby, basketball and ice hockey, developed for quadraplegics. Initially, the sport was called "murderball," "but that name did not attract many sponsors," one of the stars observes tersely. In specially designed wheelchairs, the participants fly at each other. They play matches across the world and seduce the most gorgeous girls. follows the American team from the 2002 World Championships to the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. Without cheap sentiment, the film also shows the personal lives and emotional collisions between a few players and the coach. The game elements, shot at wheelchair level, are overwhelming and convey the excitement of the sport very effectively.
