Festival history
"I have whole-heartedly hated my father. During my puberty I did everything to provoke him", says filmmaker Kees Schaap. And yet the portrait he made of his father has not become a character assassination. On the contrary, Schaap makes clear that for a certain generation of men making a career for themselves was so important that they sometimes forgot that they also had a family. Underneath the armour of dominance a sensitive person was often hiding. Schaap reconstructs the impression his father leaves on his environment by means of interviews with family members, colleagues and acquaintances. Meanwhile, on the filmmaker's invitation, his father has begun to play a game of golf with a professional opponent he does not know. Golf is pre-eminently a game in which the players' psychological flexibility is tested.
