Festival history
Kristof Buntinx thought that he was the son of God, so the disillusionment that it was only a psychosis is huge. Kristof now lives in a gigantic, numb void. He no longer sees any greater purpose and by his own account must learn to accept that life is nothing more than this. Director Ilke de Vries filmed his therapy sessions and projected them on three synchronous screens. In all of them, we see Kristof from above lying in bed. We look down at him like God would and are forced to pass judgment on what he sees and hears. Kristof tells us he wants a beautiful body above all else, and someone who will take care of him. In his mind, life should be like a fairy tale. In his role as God, the viewer must look inside himself: should he embrace this man, his subject, or turn away instead? Are these the longings of a spoiled child, or are we bearing witness to a paralyzing apathy? Kristof's stories call up all kinds of emotions and thoughts. To what extent can the viewer pass judgment on the basis of these? To what extent can a therapist pass judgment? We see Kristof, even three times simultaneously, but we also don't see him at all.
