Festival history
Fifteen years after JUVENILE LIAISON was banned by the government under pressure of the portrayed police officers, filmmakers Broomfield and Churchill returned to Lancashire. They paid a visit to some of the now adult main characters from the film from 1975, to see to what extent the police programme of deterrence had had an effect. Had the former juvenile delinquents grown up to become respectable citizens or had the hard-line approach misfired? Interviews with some of them - like Glenn, the boy who had stolen a cowboy suit and was lengthily interrogated in a dark cell - are interlaced with excerpts from the original film. The result again raises many questions about the use of such an approach with children, especially when it becomes clear that this special juvenile department of the Lancashire police still operates more or less in the same way.
