Festival history
A candid love tragedy, in which director Hara is personally involved. In 1974, he pays a visit to his ex-lover Miyuki, who left him three years earlier, taking along their child. Both Hara and his former lover, for whom he still has strong feelings, now have a new relationship. However, during the shooting period, Miyuki is abandoned by her lover and she goes through an emotional crisis. A little while later, to make matters even more complicated, she gets pregnant again after an otherwise trivial liaison. Next, she starts a relationship, which is exclusively based on sex, with an American soldier who is stationed on the island where she lives. Now, Hara becomes deeply emotional, too. He keeps shooting and witnesses how Miyuki is digging her own grave. In the background of this human tragedy, the problems on the island of Okinawa present themselves. It accommodates a few American army bases and the situation between rich and poor and between the native inhabitants and the American intruders is rather explosive.
