Festival history
The Lebanese director Maher Abi-Samra witnessed the rise of the Hezbollah movement in his country from up close. Old friends and acquaintances joined this strictly Islamic faction, and Abi-Samra wonders what the appeal is - particularly to women, who play a subordinate role within Hezbollah. Khadije, divorced, remarried and mother of nine, and Zeinab, married and mother of three sons, try to formulate an answer to this question. Both women consider the Hezbollah a way to at least liberate Palestine. This goal is so sacred that they would not only sacrifice their personal freedom to it, but also their sons. Personally, however, the boys prefer a future as a doctor, with a villa and a Mercedes, to one as a martyr for the jihad.
