Festival history
The project was launched in May 2003. In 75 countries, six reporters filmed 5,000 interviews with the goal of gaining insight into "the other." All of the interviewees -- a hiker in France, a passerby in Kenya, a storekeeper in China, a fisherman in Brazil -- answer the same questions about their hopes, dreams, fears, and problems. What did they learn from their parents? What are they passing on to their children? What difficulties have they overcome in their life? What is the meaning of love? The roughly 40 questions are aimed at revealing what connects people from all over the world and what distinguishes them from one another. Visitors to the website can view a selection of these testimonies; other interviews are not accessible online, but screened at museums as part of the exhibition. Initiator Yann Arthus-Bertrand is the renowned photographer who made , a series of breathtaking aerial photographs of our planet. During IDFA, Baptiste Rouget-Luchaire and Sibylle d'Orgeval will create a live version of the project in the cinema.
