Festival history
The storming of the winter palace of Czar Nicholas II was the dawn of the Russian revolution. Now that after eighty years the Soviet Republics are falling apart, the Russian nobility feels sufficiently safe to regroup. They dream of a czar who is above the political parties, having the authority to avert chaos in present-day Russia. The sixteen-year-old Georgi Romanov, living in ‘exile’ in Madrid, stands the best chance of becoming heir to the throne. His grandmother Leonida and his mother Maria do everything to prepare the young pretender to the throne for the leadership. Because the Romanovs are still hoping to be able to continue their divine task, ‘as soon as politics allows us and the Russian nation calls us’. In GOD,DE TSAAR EN HET VADERLANDvarious noblemen look back on their past which was brutally interrupted by the communists, and they also explain which role the new czar would perform.
