Welded Together

Katya, a young and talented welder, is building a life for herself while feeling haunted by a sense of loneliness. When she sets out to reunite with her family, she has to face a harsh reality. Katya’s mother lives in a squalid apartment and struggles with addiction. While Katya hopes to forge the family back together, she wants to protect her little half-sister Amina from growing up in a dysfunctional family. Abandoned as a child, Katya has never fully recovered from the trauma. Is her half-sister now destined for the same fate?

Through the intimately filmed, raw scenes of the daily struggles, Katya’s story unfolds like a poignant feature film, combining two storylines. One takes place in a troubled home environment where Katya deals with family problems, another in a professional one—where her co-workers value her skills, and where Katya feels she truly belongs.

To prevent history from repeating itself and break the cycle of poverty and addiction, Katya makes a difficult choice that will not only determine her own destiny, but will also give her little sister a chance for a better future.
