Desert Runners
Every year, running events are organized in the most inhospitable deserts of the world. In just five days, the competitors have to slog their way through sand for 250 kilometers (155 miles).
More infoCountless documentary filmmakers have explored the effects of the climate crisis on every day life, and many have gone on to screen their films at IDFA. The following seven films from the IDFA Collection offer an entry point into this topic, each exploring the pressing issue from a different angle.
The films in this selection reveal the melting polar caps in the Arctic, follow Naomi Klein as she calls for action to tackle the climate crisis, and show the major consequences of widespread livestock farming. From running races in inhospitable deserts to inhabiting a village that is slowly disappearing due to rising sea levels, the landscapes that the filmmakers explore could hardly be more diverse. But the Earth's climate is firmly woven through all the films as a common thread.
The IDFA Collection includes dozens of documentaries about the climate. To help you get started, you can find a selection of seven special films on this subject here, which can now be streamed online for free or a small contribution.
