Markets

Markets

One of IDFA’s unique qualities is the combination of a festival aimed at the general public, attracting large audiences, with more than 3,000 international documentary professionals who gain knowledge, do business, network and pick up inspiration at the festival. IDFA has two markets for professionals: Forum and Docs for Sale.

Forum

At the heart of the professional program is IDFA Forum – one of the world’s leading markets for co-financing and co-production in documentary and new media. Over four days, a carefully selected group of projects connects with international decision-makers: funders, broadcasters, co-producers, distributors, sales agents, and exhibitors. The selection reflects the full breadth of the documentary field, from distinctly artistic, cinematic work to projects developed in close collaboration with broadcasters, platforms, and immersive partners. Depending on a project’s stage, different presentation formats are used: pitch sessions for maximum industry visibility; roundtables for small-scale, focused exchange; rough cut presentations for projects in post-production; and IDFA DocLab Forum for immersive and interactive storytelling. This structure creates space for direct encounters, one-on-one meetings, and targeted introductions – ensuring projects connect with the right partners at the right time.

Docs for Sale

Docs for Sale is IDFA’s sales and distribution market, where completed documentaries and series connect with buyers, distributors, and programmers. At its core is a curated international catalogue, spanning festival titles, broadcaster-led productions, and independent work—offering a snapshot of today’s documentary landscape. During the festival, it serves as an active meeting space, with both scheduled and informal encounters, alongside on-site viewing in videotheque booths. The platform remains active year-round online, ensuring continued visibility for films within an international professional network.
