A special screening of Orlando, My Political Biography, the directorial debut from philosopher-filmmaker Paul B. Preciado, presented in collaboration with Stichting Prisma Groep.
For nearly a century, Virginia Woolf’s Orlando has inspired readers through its exploration of gender fluidity and transformation. Preciado responds to Woolf’s legacy with this genre-defying documentary that blends personal essay, (queer) musical and period drama to create a contemporary portrait of trans and non-binary lives, becoming a political manifesto in cinematic form.
Selected by Stichting Prisma Groep for its powerful portrayal of trans individuals navigating and resisting binary frameworks, the documentary highlights both the constraints of binary gender thinking and the resilience of those that transcend it. These themes are also central to the post-screening conversation with Jay Muller and Kaneesha Nadal, moderated by Asia Hussain.
