Emprisoned by the Dragon

Although Pou Yi‘s life and times have been extensively depicted by Bernardo Bertolucci in the last emperor (1987), the years that this last emperor spent in Russian camps after 1945 have not been documented so well. Pou Yi‘s five-year stay in a labour camp near Khabarovsk is the subject of this film. Filmmaker Gennady Gorodny based his piece of work on eyewitness accounts and records that he came across during his search for the hidden history of the last Chinese emperor. Gorodny (Ukraine, 1957) graduated from the Moscow Film Academy in 1989 as a script writer, and since 1991 he has been active as a documentary filmmaker.
