Festival history
Three Danish teenage girls get teased and ignored at school. Luckily, Maria, Maiken, and Silan have found support in each other online. Their avatars meet in the virtual world of Second Life, where they discuss their day-to-day problems with each other. Sometimes they float like angels through the air, while on other days they lie back in a digital field of grass. The taciturn Maria fears her first day of high school. "I worry that they can tell by looking at me that I've always been a loner," she tells her cyber friends. Silan is also an outsider and knows the feeling, but she has decided things are going to be different. "I've decided that from now on I want to be a girl that people listen to." She decides to go looking for friends outside of school and joins a theater group. Maiken has been to so many schools that she is tired of trying: "I constantly tried to become one of them -- and constantly ended up a ghost that no one noticed." But now she has a real friend for the very first time. All the same, Maiken is scared that the girl will get sick of her before long. Will the invisible girls ever fit in in real life?
