Festival history
The Weavers were a popular American band in the fifties, that had a large number of top ten hit singles, including 'On Top of Old Smoky' and 'Tzena, Tzena, Tzena'. In 1980 the members of the band came together once more for a reunion, which was enthusiastically welcomed by their devoted fans. Filmmaker and cameraman Jim Brown is a fan of The Weavers and his film is a tribute to the band. The weavers: wasn't that a time! does not only contain images of the cheerful reunion but also paints a picture of the fifties. Kopple: "In a time of ideological despair, this film offers a glorious dose of uplift and hope. It's a tribute to lives well?lived, and the power of music to change the world."
