Festival history

They call her Irma “The Butterfly” Testa, and although this talented boxer is only 18 years old, she’s already an established name in Italy. It’s 2016, and she has just become the first female Italian boxer ever to be selected for the Olympic Games. The Italian public is ecstatic—especially in Naples, her home city. Nothing less than a gold medal in Rio will do.

Irma starts training like a woman possessed, but she has worries, too. What if she’s defeated after all of this? Will it have been worth all that time and energy? Butterfly follows Irma in the run-up to the games, as well as once they’re over. Now she has more time to be with her best friend, to be a big sister to her little brother, and to enjoy all those things she’s been missing for years. But she’s still worried—how can she be sure she’s making the right choices? What starts off as a regular sports documentary develops into an intimate look at a talented young woman who’s still trying to find her way in life.
