They Don't Exist

Mustapha Abu Ali
1973
Festival history

They don't exist takes its title from Golda Meir's famous characterization of the Palestinian people. Through a series of short scenes interspersed with animation the film illustrates the life and struggle of the Palestinians in terms of the destinies of different members of a single family.
In 1968, the director of the film, Mustapha Abu Ali, had set up a Palestine Cinema Unit, together with Hany Jawhariyya and Sulafa Jadallah. The Unit, whose organization has varied over the years, has produced about twenty short documentaries as well as a variety of newsreels.
