Festival history
‘The man who like no other is capable of making us smile and think at the same time.’ This is what American documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is sometimes called. After the enormous success of his satirical documentary ROGER & ME, he devoted himself to writing a book, called Downsize This! The recordings for his latest film THE BIG ONE were largely made during the promotion campaign for this book. With his familiar confrontational way of asking questions, he investigates the influence of the economic changes on the social-political life in his country. He tries to find an answer to the question why thousands of workers are turned out into the street by companies that at the same time make billions of dollars in profits. To this end, he visits people like Nike senior executive Phil Knight. But he also interviews strange characters like jazz musician Rick Neilsen and a prisoner who is manning the switchboard of an airline company.
