Everything in the world is connected with everything else. Those who are young have parents and ancestors, and the potential to be the ancestor of future generations, or the progenitor of something that doesn’t yet exist. These facts are the point of departure for an exploration of networks and nodes that each viewer of this “dome film” must untangle for themselves.

The Dutch artists’ collective Metahaven found the ideal medium for their research into the natural cycles: a round, hemispherical projection screen. The video takes full advantage of this geometric form: it consists of rotating tableaux that allow us to simultaneously track the past and the future, while the enormous curved screen also offers plenty of space for a detailed display of various nodes in the networks. This combination of live-action and animation is accompanied by a new piece by the young Canadian composer Kara-Lis Coverdale.

This piece is part of the “The New Infinity” programme, co-produced with Berliner Festspiele / Immersion and Planetarium Hamburg.
