Zwei Städte
Germany
1949
9 min
It is 1949: Germany recovers. But the reconstruction does not go smoothly everywhere. The city of Dresden is in the zone that is occupied by the Russians. There is a shortage of food, people are queuing in front of the shops, and all the rubble has not been cleared up. In the West lies Stuttgart. Here, everything and everyone is brought into action for the reconstruction: houses, hospitals, and cinemas are either in scaffolding or are re-built. There is an abundant supply of food. In short, the city revives. In Two Cities, Dresden and Stuttgart are the model for the split in post-war Germany.
