In Ayahuasca – A Kosmik Journey, acclaimed French film director Jan Kounen explores the potential of using Virtual Reality to represent the psychedelic experience of Ayahuasca, a brew used in rituals by the Shipibo tribe of the Amazon. IDFA and Eye present a special exhibition around this work, expanding the virtual reality installation and inviting audiences to enter a virtual world of visions opened up by Ayahuasca.
As modern living is increasingly looking at ancient rituals and wisdom, Ayahuasca rituals are finding a growing interest from people in search for for healing, purpose and transformative experiences. Ayahuasca - The Shamanic Exhibition features different elements to learn about this ceremony with the VR installation by Jan Kounen as centerpiece. Can immersive technology approach experiences like Ayahuasca? Can they alter our sense of reality?
