Festival history
Twelve years after her immense popularity came to an end, American TV evangelist Tammy Faye tells her life story. A major role in this story is played by her first husband Jim Bakker, whom she married at a young age. Together, they built a successful television empire. They had their own television station, PTL (Praise the Lord), broadcasting 24 hours a day, and constructed a Christian amusement park that soon became one of the most popular attractions in the country. From that moment, however, the problems started. In the late eighties, Tammy’s world collapsed: her husband was accused of embezzlement and adultery and was eventually sentenced to a long term in prison. Their company was taken over and Tammy contended with a medicine addiction. Her children slowly slipped away from her and she later developed cancer. But in spite of all the setbacks, Tammy has managed to keep her faith and to struggle to her feet time and again - until today.
