Festival history
In the fifty years of its independence the Indian government has driven countless people away from their land for the benefit of a dam, a mine or a factory. New plans are continually being developed and additional villages are swept away. The documentary KAISE JEEBO, RE! centres around the Sardar Sarovar Dam. Upon the completion of the Bargi Dam, seven hundred metres above Sardar Sarovar, 162 villages in Madhya Pradesh were flooded. One million people in total lost the land they had lived on and worked for centuries. The Indian government merely considers this organised destruction of ancient tribal cultures and ecosystems a trifling price for progress.
