Festival history
For Chris Hooson, the Everton soccer stadium in Liverpool is a sacred place. When he was little, he went there to see his favourite team in action, and that feeling of belonging that he got from sitting in the bleachers watching games has never really left him. In , Hooson is sitting in the bleachers alone. All is quiet in the stadium.
We follow the singer/songwriter from the band Dakota Suite to Groningen, where he spent part of his childhood and often felt lost. These days, he is able to find peace on the coast of north-western England - it is there that his songs come bubbling to the service. In a little church in Leeds, the band's hometown, Dakota Suite is recording a new album. Hooson doesn't enjoy performing live, as he feels like a "prisoner" when he is standing in front of an audience. is pervaded with the melancholic and serene atmosphere of Dakota Suite's songs and reveals the connection between the artist's work and his daily surroundings. After having considered suicide a few years back, Hooson has now found happiness in family. In addition to his musical activities, he works as a counsellor for prison inmates. When asked what he is leaving humanity behind, Hooson estimates this work to be more valuable than his music.
