Farewell Tour

The second part of a series in which De Warme Winkel theatre collective responds to the sense of being superfluous on our overpopulated planet explores how we can keep things pleasant for all its ten billion people.

In the first play in the series, the collective tried to find the answer by “excelling,” in Vincent Rietveld Tries to Win an Acting Award (Vincent Rietveld gaat voor de Louis d’Or. Spoiler alert: he didn’t win). In Farewell Tour, Vincent Rietveld explores “asceticism,” curbing their cravings and desires. Austerity is king in this downsizing exercise, doing more with less and seeking beauty in small things, in order to reduce their ecological footprint.

All of this means that the play needs to be nonpolluting. So the actors go on their theater tour by bike, carrying the scenery with them. And the theaters have to make their own publicity posters by drawing on the backs of old ones. De Warme Winkel partnered with IDFA to explore different media in this radical attempt to create a climate-neutral theater play. The result is an experimental play combining film, live performance and light interaction. The thermostat in the auditorium will be turned down to freezing, of course, so keep your coat on.
