Festival history
Love can sprout under the strangest conditions: Regina, a political prisoner from East Berlin, has had a relationship for some time with Uwe, the man who interrogated her for months about her ‘politically incorrect’ activities. During the eight-hour interrogations, Uwe had to wrest a statement from her, but gradually they devoted more and more time to private conversations. Sixteen years after her release, Regina called him up. Uwe left his family and Regina left her husband, and they started living together. They went back to the places of the past. For the first time, Uwe was able to put his misdeeds into words and Regina could finally browse through her files, which comprise as much as four thousand pages. Despite these complex circumstances, they manage to prevent foundering on the guilt question. It is clear that this unusual love story defies explanation on the basis of customary psychological clichés. Life is too capricious for that.
