Filmed in three parts and over the course of twelve years, filmmaker and camera-pioneer Leonard Retel Helmrich meticulously documented the lives of the Sjamsuddin family against a backdrop of Jakarta’s political and social landscape.

Poetic, dynamic and often humorous, Retel Helmrich's Indonesia trilogy stands as a quintessential work in Dutch documentary filmmaking. Het Documentaire Paviljoen is beyond excited to bring it back to the big screen, with each screening being co-curated alongside Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich, who will be present for the screening on December 18th.
