Lightning Over Water (Nick's Movie)

Wim Wenders about Lightning over Water (Nick's Movie): "Two friends, of whom one is about to die, make a film together which is precisely dealing with dying. At the end one friend is dead and the other finishes the film". Already at the beginning of the shooting, Ray was seriously weakened by illness. That is why his film has mainly become a film of Wenders about Ray. The film hovers between befitting curiosity and an invasion of Ray's privacy. How merciless a camera can be is shown in a scene when Ray, after having spoken, has nothing more to say. Wenders asks him to give the word, whenever he wants to stop. Ray answers: "Cut". "Don't cut", Wenders says. So the camera keeps on shooting. A minute later Wenders decides to stop, anyway.
