Melanie Reid, a well-known multi-award winning Current Affairs journalist goes behind the camera to tell the story of dedication, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit. Reid, currently Associate Director of News for TV3, lives with Jemarl and they have a five-year old son together. Jemarl is the son of Ernie Paerata, a former prison officer, soldier, and a poet. A New Zealander who had an unblemished personal history until 10 years ago when he suffered a mental breakdown. In 1991 Ernie Paerata was caught at Bangkok airport with 425 grams of heroin. He began a 30 year sentence in Klong Prem, one of the world’s toughest prisons. It is also known as the Bangkok Hilton.
