Now available online, IDFA 2019: A Year in Review is a new publication that reflects on our past, present, and future. Using last year as a jumping off point, the publication deep dives into our burgeoning identity as an international institute for documentary film. From showcasing over 300 creative documentaries in November to fighting for imprisoned filmmakers’ rights year-round, IDFA 2019: A Year in Review outlines our growing activities, ambitions, and challenges as an organization.
“What has become clearer than ever before is that solidarity between filmmakers, festivals, and the film community makes us stronger. In standing together, we empathize, learn, and support each other,” Orwa Nyrabia (Artistic Director) and Cees van ’t Hullenaar (Executive Director) write in the publication’s opening pages. “All of this—our dedication and community—is what IDFA stands for, not only when reflecting on our 2019 edition, but also in moving forward into 2020.”
Publication highlights include our advocacy work on the International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk, findings from the 32nd festival edition, a special case study from our new award structure, and our activities as an ambassador of film education in the Netherlands, among other focus points.
