Festival history
Filmmaker Grietje Keller wrote the scenario for OMA KELLER within the framework of the IDFA scenario workshop 1995, which was coached by Pieter Verhoeff. It is the first scenario from that workshop which has been realised. Grietje Keller is named after her grandmother, but the latter saw this more as 'another typical prank of her son', because she thought Grietje was an ugly name. Although her father, being a contrary son, often quarrelled with his mother, Grietje jr. took his admiration for her strong-willed character with the proverbial mother's milk. This gave Grietje an image of her grandmother as an energetic, pert and busy woman. When she examined the events in her grandma's life further, looked at pictures and interviewed other people besides her father and uncle, it turned out that not everyone put her on such a high pedestal.
