Festival history
In this personal documentary the filmmaker analyses her relationship with Vyola, her second mother who is an alcoholic. Vyola started drinking when she was still living in Alaska as an Eskimo girl. She tells about the beginning of her addiction and the way that alcohol kept dominating her life after she had moved to the United States. During the shooting of the film all memories are dredged up that may have given rise to her addiction. She wonders whether it results from a certain innate capacity (nature) or whether after all it is the consequence of specific conditions (nurture) she grew up in. At the end of the film the filmmaker is left with feelings of frustration, incapable to understand how Vyola‘s life could have gotten so out of hand.
