Amphibious means having more than one mode of existence, being of doubtful nature, existing in more than one particular realm. Amphibious, as a concept, asserts its singularity through its interdependence, holding onto relation proximities and distances. This film takes place in the Pearl River Delta region in the People's Republic of China. It follows a group of turtles riding atop a log as it is carried along by the river current. The turtles appear to be amazed by what is going on around them, and their prehistoric sluggishness glides effortlessly and unseen through the river's fast amphibious network of import and export activities. The juxtaposition produces an absurd picture of industrialisation gone wrong. The message is crystal clear and needs no commentary or insistence.
