Festival history
Stanton Elementary School is situated in one of the problem districts of Philadelphia. It is a so-called 'Chapter-One-School', which recieves money from the federal government to help disadvantaged children with their education. Generally they do not come up to the national standards set for arithmetic and reading. Ninety percent of the children comes from a one-parent family. Ninety percent is living in poverty. All pupils are Afro-American boys and girls between four and ten years old. For one year the film-maker followed the kids at this school in an attempt to examine the problems of children that are living alongside the American Dream.
