Festival history
In this documentary of almost the same name, Richard Kelly, author of , interviews the makers of the first six Dogma films and other people involved. In an illuminating way, first a gangster scene is stripped step by step according to the ten rules of the Danish Dogma manifest. Genre films are forbidden, just like guns, artificial light, black-and-white images, added sound, et cetera. The rules are strict, but following them the Dogma filmmakers recovered their pleasure in filming. Dogme#1, Thomas Vinterberg’s FESTEN, won the Golden Palm at the 1998 Cannes festival. Lars von Trier’s IDIOTERNE was not understood by everybody, but Søren Kragh-Jacobsen’s MIFUNES SIDSTE SANG was awarded the Silver Bear in Berlin. Kristian Levring is still working on THE KING IS ALIVE, Dogme#4. Kelly tries to find out whether Dogma95 has a future. In any case, the French actor Jean-Marc Barr and the American Harmony Korine already completed Dogme#5 and Dogme#6.
