Festival history
Goebbels was a skilful liar. Hitler's minister of Propaganda knew that if you keep repeating a lie it becomes true. During the Gulf War, the truths of the American generals got huge media coverage. The public at large was consistently told that it was a mild form of warfare, a precision war, preventing Iraqi citizens from needlessly getting hurt. This indoctrination worked so well that only a few journalists casted doubt on the real course of events, which involved two thousand daily flights over Iraq. Only when camera teams saw the battlefields of Iraq after the war, it was possible to fathom how preconceived this precision war had been, with the modern weaponry making a lot of mishits. The complete infrastructure of the country was systematically destroyed. The image that emerges from A JUST WAR? opposes the image we saw during the war itself. It does not only concern the suffering of a few citizens, but the destruction of a modern civilisation. This film goes back in time, to ancient Babylon. It is a tour along the battlefields, an investigation of the ecological complications of the war and a comment on the determined, preconceived, barbaric atrocity of using modern, hyper-technological weapons.
