IDFA is an international documentary film festival that takes place each November in Amsterdam. Every year, the festival presents a program of around 300 creative documentaries and interactive documentary projects, accompanied by performances, conversations and debates with filmmakers, protagonists and special guests. This makes a film screening at IDFA a truly unique experience for festivalgoers.

IDFA’s strength is that it is both a festival for a large national audience as well as one of the most important documentary events for film professionals. In addition to the festival, IDFA has developed four activities that all offer a substantial contribution to the international documentary climate: the co-financing market IDFA Forum, where filmmakers and producers pitch their plans to financiers; Docs for Sale, where new documentaries are offered for sale to programmers and distributors; the IDFA Bertha Fund, which supports filmmakers and documentary projects in developing countries; and IDFAcademy, an international training curriculum for fledgling filmmakers. In this manner, IDFA contributes to the development of filmmakers and their films at all stages.
